Becoming a Trusted Advisor

Post Covid 19, customers – be they internal or external – want more than just value.  They want services that are truly relevant to them personally.  There is a greater demand for a ‘human to human’ connection based on trust and integrity.  A trusted advisor is able take a clear brief on others’ needs or issues, work with colleagues (often across functions or across a number of locations) and deliver against clear actions and timelines.

As a trusted advisor you must be able to interpret your customer’s requirements, challenge appropriately and deliver value and relevance – so that your customer resolves their problem and will recommend and endorse your work. This workshop is designed to show your people how to build on their skills as a trusted deliverer and move to a position of trusted advisor.

COURSE OUTCOMES

By the end of the programme, participants will:

  • Apply a proven and structured approach to business situations that require information gathering
  • Build rapport with increased credibility and professionalism – developing trust and working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Ask powerful questions to uncover needs and gain a deeper understanding of requirements and why these matter now
  • Demonstrate understanding of requirements and articulate that to your customer with appropriate challenge and input as a value add
  • Acquire trusted advisor status with your stakeholders, colleagues and customers

  • What makes a trusted advisor? What are the skills and behaviours you need to develop?
  • Challenging back with key stakeholders – how to do that with empathy and integrity
  • Overview of the five phase approach to working collaboratively as a trusted advisor:
    • Creating the right working relationship and contracting
    • How to develop the ‘brief’ – understanding their needs, challenges and concerns
    • Working together
    • Delivering the requirements
    • Delivering value, measuring effectiveness
