Posner and becoming an internationally best-selling book, The Leadership Challenge, The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership approaches leadership as a measurable, learnable, and teachable set of behaviours.

“No matter how our Leaders are, with this program we can make them better”. Based in an incredible amount of surveys and case studies, they managed to ask for a list of characteristics a leader should have around 27 thousand people during a period time for over 30 years. After their research, Kouzes and Posner identified the main characteristic to be a leader as Honest, Forward-looking, Competent, Inspiring or Intelligent.

Not only that. They discovered 5 common concepts in their surveys, which are: “Model the Way,” “Inspire a Shared Vision,” “Challenge the Process,” “Enable Others to Act,” and “Encourage the Heart” being the last one the most uncommon seeing on a leader. Those are “The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership” focused on the main traits a Leader needs to have. Believing that a Leadership is learned not born, Kouzes and Posner examine some different personalities and some futures as being honest and some other skills that make someone to be a leader.
